what a magic!

Graphic recording is like a Sisyphus tale, to be an artist is to repeatedly act out the talent (or not), like carrying the big stone and then rolling it into a base of the hill in a whole life. So when an artist (graphic recorder) climbs up the artwork scene, he/she reaffirms his existence in the face of adversity. In this case, when graphic recorder on the spot, he/she remain standing in the face of hardship: The spontaneous and to understand the event’s concept. 

During early December 2023, the YSEALI’s program (Young South East Asia Leaders Initiative), was held in Sanur, Bali. It was a memorable moment. When I first emailed by Nalendra from Biji-Biji Initiative (a facilitator’s group), I’ve come across my 2019 Instagram feed which was I drew the latest YSEALI’s event at the time, in Jakarta. 

For the next step, the YSEALI’s graphic record’s project have been taken. I’am accompanied by Rıfqi and Abe (Abe accompanied by Chika as an English translator) to joined with me as a graphic recorder. Biji-biji has also recruit Agata, a Bali based graphic recorder, to collaborate as a team. This project has allowed us to progress to next level of our capability as a graphic recorder. 

Every graphic recorder placed on 4 breakout rooms: Education, civic engagement, environment, and economic empowerment. My placement is at environment room, which does things very familiar to what I have been drawing in this year (2023). And the theme also aligned with my personal interest. 

What I like most about this project is the participants and the Committee are friendly. There are always welcomes for us to work together in a good fluent communication. Being able to be part of this project is a good opportunity. 

In my opinion, graphic recorder is like a traveler. Traveler is like making sure to do the right things on the right moment. The essential thing before going is to plan your belongings, healthy, local experiences, and your attitude as a personal or as a team member. 

Make sure you plan a good mix of all of them :)
