Yasmin Tri Aryani and Mr. Cameron MacKay, Canadian Ambassador in International Womens day |
This is Yasmin Tri Aryani, from Jakarta - Indonesia. Started to do graphic recording since joined #riwayatkarya exhibition in 2017. And this is a short interview with her :
.
1. Describe your Workstyle.
I learn by looking at some sketches and I also read books that have many illustrations to explain the content.
.
2. When you are working, do you discuss or exchange ideas with your colleagues?
To answer this question, I will look at the unique nature of graphic recording itself. Most of times, I did graphic recording for a discussion session, where people exchange ideas and I did the drawings myself. However, as the discussions get riveting, I will have to negotiate which part is the most important to be featured. In this case, I don’t really have time to discuss it with anyone. To help me know what is prominent, I usually ask the event’s committee on what is the topic of their event and I look at who initiates the event itself beforehand. It helps a lot.
.
3. Which of your projects has given you the most satisfaction?
I think it is the one I sent to Riwayat Karya exhibition, which was about the tiny house movement. I did a month of research, and in the end, I was very inspired by the people I met during that time. I thought I would love to share it with others by using drawings as an instrument.
.
4. You must get a lot offers for collaboration. How do you decide which ones you want to take on?
Not really XD, but if I did, I think I always work for the topic that echoes my values in life.
.
5. What did you want to be when you were child?
I remember clearly, I wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. Hahaha, I met a lot of inspiring teachers since a young age. So, I thought I would love to do something like them, to help children in appreciating what they do best and they love most without having to meet any standards.
.
6. What books do you read most?
I love fiction that is based on history. It makes you imagine other perspectives on what could be happening at that particular timeline.
.
7. What are you afraid of regarding the future? what are you optimistic about?
I am afraid that more and more people will have less emphatic to the others. I have seen the worst of people during this Covid-19 pandemic, the people that only care about money and their own safety (yes, I am talking about the face mask-hand sanitizer-disinfectant-hoarders). What I am very optimistic about is to see people started to realise how they miss human to human interaction. Now that they have all the time to be with their screen, they know none can replace the feeling of socializing with others in person. I hope when this pandemic is over, we will cherish every moment with our family and friends, and let our screen off when we are with them.
Stay healthy, people!
